In case you missed it, Sebastian Vettel started off Ferrari’s 2017 Formula 1 season with a victory.

Lewis Hamilton started the race in the lead, but Vettel maintained a quick pace around the track and emerged from the pits in the front of the pack. Leap frogging ahead a few positions, Vettel secured the win, finishing almost 10 seconds ahead of Hamilton, who took second. Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas took third, and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen took fourth.

Raikkonen also raced the fastest lap at Melbourne’s F1 season opener, with a 1:26:538. Interestingly enough, the track’s record fastest lap was set in 2004 at 1:24:125 by Michael Schumacher in a Ferrari.

The last Ferrari win in Australia was with Kimi Raikkonen behind the wheel, and he and Ferrari went on to win the championship. We think the Melbourne opener was an auspicious start for Ferrari’s 2017 season and we look forward to watching the rest of the series play out.
