In 2007, Ferrari hosted a record-setting parade that involved 490 classic and new Ferrari models at the Silverstone Circuit in England. Earlier this year, the set the record for the most Ferrari F40s in one place at the Silverstone Classic, with 60 versions of the 25-year-old supercar lined up on the track. And this year, their goal is re-set their first record, at Silverstone, with over 1,000 Ferrari models.
The Silverstone Racing Circuit is one of the few racetracks that can fit over 1,000 cars on it at one time. And, Ferrari already holds a couple records on the three mile track, including the fastest lap time around the Arena Grand Prix Circuit section (1:30.874 in 2010), as well as the Bridge Grand Prix Circuit Section (1:18.739 in 2004). But with this record, they're not looking to break any time constraints.
No, this is a record of a whole different sort. The September 15th event already has 600 registrants, so they've technically already broken the record. But, when the day comes, Guinness will be there to record the event, and we can't help but imagine what the images of this parade will look like when the day is over.
And that's only the beginning - this event is the kick-off to Ferrari Racing Days, where the automaker will showcase the ultra-rare FXX and 599XX supercars.
For each car entered into the parade, Ferrari will donate $8 to BEN, an automotive industry charity based in the UK. They provide practical, emotional or financial support to those who work or have worked in the automotive industry, as well as their spouses and dependents.
So, to sum it up: this fall, Ferrari will bring together some of the world's greatest collector cars to set a new world record, will donate funds from this event to a philanthropic organization, and fans will have the chance to see some very rare cars in the process.
